The five-day journey to Derawan Island with Yasmin, Eyi, Joe, Reihan Davindra, Leonardo, and Rayhan Kurniawan was an experience full of color and meaning. For me, it was not just a holiday, but a chance to connect with nature, share moments with friends, and find peace in the beauty of East Kalimantan’s seas.
The first day began with a long trip to Derawan with Yasmin and Eyi. Although my body felt tired, the excitement stayed alive, and the endless blue ocean seemed to wash away all fatigue. The second day with Joe was the highlight of exploration: watching manta rays glide gracefully in Sangalaki, swimming among non-stinging jellyfish in Kakaban, and ending the day with the calm tropical scenery of Maratua. The third day with Reihan Davindra was slower and more relaxed we walked around the island, greeted the locals, and enjoyed light snorkeling near the pier, surrounded by small colorful fish. The fourth day with Leonardo revealed more of Derawan’s charm. A warm sunrise and a breathtaking sunset made me feel like I was in a hidden paradise, while snorkeling at new spots showed vibrant coral reefs. The fifth day with Rayhan Kurniawan closed the journey. Returning to Samarinda felt heavy, but the memories we carried home will always stay alive
This trip made me realize that travel is not only about destinations, but also about how we interact with nature and people. Sangalaki and Kakaban taught me the importance of protecting unique marine ecosystems, while Derawan and Maratua showed the balance between exploration and conservation. The quiet moments on the island gave me space to appreciate the simple life of the local community, adding social, ecological, and emotional meaning to the journey.
Overall, Derawan Island is more than just a holiday spot. For me, it was a life experience a blend of natural beauty, friendship, and personal reflection. The balance between adventure and relaxation made this journey not only a trip, but a story I will always remember.
